Sketchbook cover

How did you take the photograph?
I took the picture using my iphone's camera.
Why is this photo good?
There is a lot of contrast between the light and dark shadow's on her face, especially the how the          front of her face is very light, but her hair is dark and helps emphasize the shadows.
Why do you value this photograph?
I value this photograph because it is one of my close friends.  This picture was taken during a              time when we reached a new level of understanding in our friendship.  We became extremely              close during the time period from when I took the picture.
What is your theme?  How did you showcase your identity?
My theme is Chinese language and art.  I love learning Chinese, and it has become a prominent          point in my life, that I know I will continue and incorporate into my career.  I couldn't define              myself without it.
How do the other images/text selected relate to your theme?
I love the beauty of the Chinese characters, and I wrote my favorite words.  To me, the characters       show the essence of the beauty in the language.  The dragon shows a traditional chinese way of           portraying dragons, which play a large part in their myths and culture.  And finally, the bamboo           shows my ability to be strong yet flexible, as well as representing my favorite animal, the Giant           Panda.
Describe how you used the chose principle of design.
I used repetition throughout my piece.  The repetition is the characters in the background, and            while each of them are unique, they also are similar.  Also, I put bamboo leaves throughout the            cover as well.

Best Photo

This is my favorite picture I have taken, because it is of my friend Jenna.  Jenna was staying at my house, because her mom went on vacation.  She fit in so well with my family, and everyone loved having her.  I remember how she could be very insecure, even though she acts tougher than she is.  I feel like this photo really combines her confidence and insecurity very well.  She had no idea I took this picture, but that is another reason it is important to me.  We have a game where we take pictures of each other when the other one isn’t suspecting it.  She often tries to make me look as ridiculous as possible, whereas I like to take very natural shots of her.  I like the lighting and the mood of the photo, and these two things are what I make it a good photo.  Another reason I think it is a good photo is because it evokes when I look at it.  I feel really calm, almost as if I should patiently wait for whatever is coming.
